TUCSON, Ariz. — On Saturday evening, Breya Cunningham shone brightly as she contributed 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, helping Arizona clinch a decisive 77-62 victory over No. 16 West Virginia. This win marked the Wildcats’ first triumph against a Top 25 opponent this season.

Cunningham demonstrated her prowess on the court by shooting 7 of 11 from the field while also recording three steals and three blocks. Supporting her efforts, teammates Paulina Paris and Skylar Jones both added 16 points. Jada Williams also put up an admirable performance, scoring 13 points, including hitting three shots from beyond the arc, for Arizona, which stands at 14-8 overall and 5-4 in the Big 12.

On the other side, West Virginia was led by Ja’Naiya Quinerly, who netted 26 points, while Sydney Shaw contributed 10 points. The game began with a close battle as Jordan Harrison scored to give the Mountaineers a 15-14 lead with just over a minute left in the first quarter. However, Williams quickly responded with a 3-pointer 18 seconds later, marking the start of Arizona’s dominance as they would not fall behind again.

Shaw managed to even the score at 17 with a jumper to start the second quarter, but Jones took charge, scoring seven consecutive points to ignite a 12-2 run. As the clock wound down in the second quarter, Kyah Watson made a layup, pulling West Virginia within seven points with just over four minutes to go. Nevertheless, Arizona answered decisively, launching into an 11-point scoring streak that allowed them to secure a commanding 46-30 lead by halftime, maintaining a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the contest.

In a disappointing twist for West Virginia, the team struggled from long-range, managing to make only one out of 12 attempts from beyond the arc—their lowest output of the season.

As the teams move forward, West Virginia will take a break before returning to action next Saturday when they host Oklahoma State. Meanwhile, Arizona will hit the road to face Utah this Friday.
