Monaco’s challenging season took a further nosedive as they fell 2-1 to bottom-placed Montpellier in Ligue 1, allowing Lille to seize third place in the standings.
Bruno Genesio’s Lille continued their impressive form, extending their unbeaten streak across all competitions to 21 matches with a 2-1 victory over Nice at home, pushing them one point ahead of Monaco, who played their match earlier in the day.

Monaco initially took control of the game when German defender Thilo Kehrer scored in the first half against the league’s weakest defense. However, the team stumbled in the second half, allowing Jordan forward Mousa Al Tamari to turn the match around with two goals.
The match featured new recruit Mika Biereth in the attack for coach Adi Hütter’s side, but Monaco has struggled lately, managing only two victories in their last eleven outings.
This defeat marked only Montpellier’s third win in their 18 league matches this season.

The loss left Monaco trailing 12 points behind the league leaders Paris Saint-Germain, intensifying the scrutiny on coach Hütter’s management.
Lille’s next challenge is a difficult away match against Premier League leaders Liverpool in the upcoming Champions League, but they have shown they are a resilient team this season.

In their match, Lille found themselves behind in the 29th minute when midfielder Sofiane Diop capitalized on an error from goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, who failed to properly handle a cross from Jonathan Clauss.
However, shortly after halftime, Lille came back to equalize when the striker Jonathan David, with a clever dummy, set up Hakon Haraldsson. Clauss then faltered defensively in the 63rd minute, allowing defender Bafodé Diakité to seal the game with a goal.
Nice slipped to fifth place as a result, now just one point behind Monaco in the standings.
Paris Saint-Germain is set to play against Lens on Saturday.
