FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Goalkeeper Drake Callender has become the latest addition to the list of players who will miss the United States’ upcoming friendly matchup against Venezuela this Saturday.
On Thursday, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced that Callender is dealing with a minor muscle concern, prompting him to return to Inter Miami for necessary evaluation and treatment.
Earlier in the week, three other players left the training camp: forward Jesús Ferreira, who is addressing fitness issues; defender Jalen Neal, who has an unspecified minor problem; and John Tolkin, who transferred to Holstein Kiel in Germany.
Currently, the U.S. team has 20 players remaining on its roster as they prepare for another match against Costa Rica the following Wednesday in Orlando. Notably, these matches are not occurring during the FIFA international window, which has resulted in the absence of Europe-based players from the squad.
A total of nine players could potentially earn their first caps in this friendly. Among those poised to make their debuts are goalkeeper Matt Freese; defender George Campbell; midfielders Max Arfsten and Emeka Eneli; and forwards Patrick Agyemang, Caden Clark, Brian Gutiérrez, Matko Miljevic, and Indiana Vassilev.
Here’s the current roster for the U.S. team:
**Goalkeepers:** Matt Freese (New York City), Patrick Schulte (Columbus), Zack Steffen (Colorado).
