LONDON — Sam Kerr, a forward for Chelsea and the captain of the Australian women’s national soccer team, faced a court appearance on Tuesday as she was charged with racially aggravated harassment of a police officer.
Kerr, widely regarded as one of the premier players in women’s soccer and holding the record as Australia’s all-time leading scorer, attended Kingston Crown Court for the proceedings.
The incident in question occurred in Twickenham, located in southwest London, on January 30, 2023. According to the UK’s Public Order Act, Kerr is accused of causing harassment, alarm, or distress to a police officer.
In March of the previous year, the 31-year-old athlete pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.
Currently, her trial is scheduled for February 3, where further details of the case will be addressed.
