BOONE, N.C. — In a competitive matchup, the Troy Trojans emerged victorious with a 69-61 win over Appalachian State on Thursday evening, securing their second consecutive win in the Sun Belt Conference.
Tayton Conerway played a pivotal role in the Trojans’ success, contributing 16 points along with eight assists. His performance was crucial for Troy, who improved their overall record to 9-4 and maintained a perfect conference record of 2-0.
Supporting Conerway, Thomas Dowd made his mark by scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds, while Marcus Rigsby Jr. matched Dowd’s point total, finishing with 12 points. Rigsby shot 5 for 12 from the field, with a challenging 2 for 9 from three-point range, but still made his presence felt on the court.
On the other side, Myles Tate led the charge for the Mountaineers, scoring a noteworthy 20 points along with five assists and four steals. His efforts weren’t enough to tilt the game in favor of Appalachian State, which dropped to 6-7 for the season and 0-2 in conference play.
Jalil Beaubrun also helped his team with a solid performance, scoring 12 points, pulling down seven rebounds, and making two steals. Despite a strong effort from the Mountaineers, they fell short in this close contest against the Trojans.
