LA Galaxy’s Riqui Puig sidelined for MLS Cup final due to left knee ACL tear.

CARSON, Calif. — LA Galaxy midfielder Riqui Puig will be sidelined for the upcoming MLS Cup final after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during the recent Western Conference final.

Puig experienced the injury early in the second half of the match against the Seattle Sounders, which ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for the Galaxy. Remarkably, despite the pain, he managed to provide an assist for Dejan Joveljic’s decisive goal in the 85th minute, helping the Galaxy secure their first appearance in an MLS Cup final since 2014.

Following the match, an MRI conducted on Sunday confirmed the ACL tear. Details on the timing of his surgery are still undetermined.

The Galaxy are set to face the New York Red Bulls in the final next week, a highly anticipated match for both teams.

Hailing from Matadepera, Spain, Puig has had an impressive playoff performance, recording four goals and four assists in the Galaxy’s four matches throughout the playoffs. Over the course of 36 games in all competitions this season, including 34 starts, he has tallied a total of 17 goals and 20 assists, cementing his critical role in the team’s success this season.

The loss of Puig is a significant blow to the Galaxy, as they look to capture the championship title fiercely contested in the upcoming final.
