FORT COLLINS, Colo. — In a thrilling conclusion to their regular season, Colorado State triumphed over Utah State with a score of 42-37, thanks to a remarkable performance from sophomore quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi. He achieved three of his four touchdown passes in the intense fourth quarter and also contributed a significant rushing touchdown, leading his team to a 29-point scoring run.
The Rams (8-4, 6-1 Mountain West Conference) found themselves in a tough spot after the Aggies (4-8, 3-4) surged ahead with two touchdowns before the end of the third quarter, creating a daunting 30-13 lead. However, Fowler-Nicolosi turned the tide, starting with a 12-yard touchdown throw to Vince Brown II, followed shortly by a 22-yard completion to Jordan Ross, narrowing the gap to 30-28 with just six minutes left on the clock.
A crucial interception by Dominic Morris allowed Colorado State to gain possession deep in Aggies territory, at the 19-yard line. This set the stage for Fowler-Nicolosi to score on a 3-yard run, flipping the score to 35-30 with only 2:32 remaining in the game. Utah State was unable to respond, turning over the ball on downs, and Fowler-Nicolosi sealed the victory by connecting with Brown again for a final 26-yard touchdown.
The game began with Utah State establishing dominance, as quarterback Bryson Barnes led a scoring spree with both a touchdown pass and a rushing touchdown that quickly gave the Aggies an early 13-0 lead. Just before halftime, Fowler-Nicolosi managed to close the gap by throwing a 28-yard touchdown to Dane Olson, making the score 16-13.
In the second half, Barnes and Otto Tia connected for a 14-yard touchdown pass, while Fowler-Nicolosi’s subsequent pass was intercepted by Jaiden Francois, who returned it for a 40-yard touchdown, stretching Utah State’s lead to 17 points. Despite the rocky stretches, Fowler-Nicolosi ultimately finished the night with an impressive 370 yards on 31 completions out of 46 attempts, and Olson stood out among receivers with five catches for a total of 140 yards.
Barnes displayed a strong performance as well, accumulating 189 passing yards while rushing for 185 more. With this win, Colorado State celebrates reaching eight victories in a season for the first time in a decade.
