Howden’s overtime goal secures 4-3 win over Utah, maintaining Golden Knights’ flawless home record

LAS VEGAS — In an exciting overtime finale, Brett Howden weaved past Alexander Kerfoot and netted the winning goal just 2:15 into the extra period, leading the Vegas Golden Knights to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday evening.

Noah Hanifin was instrumental for the Golden Knights, contributing a goal and two assists. Howden rounded out his performance with an assist, while Pavel Dorofeyev and William Karlsson also added goals for Vegas. Goalie Adin Hill showcased his skills, making 16 saves throughout the match.

On the opposing side, Logan Cooley shone for Utah with a goal and an assist, joined on the scoresheet by Ian Cole and Kerfoot. Nick Bjugstad played a crucial role, assisting on two goals while Connor Ingram delivered an impressive performance in net, recording 31 saves.

After falling behind 2-0 in the second period with just eight minutes remaining, the Golden Knights sparked a comeback by scoring three consecutive goals. Karlsson ultimately gave Vegas the lead, finding the net during a fast break at 5:37 of the third period.

Kerfoot managed to tie the game again with 6:50 left on the clock, seizing an opportunity when a puck ricocheted off a Golden Knights player, landing conveniently in front of an unguarded net.

With this victory, the Golden Knights have solidified their remarkable start at home, boasting an impressive 8-0 record while outscoring rivals 43-19.

**Key Highlights**

For Utah, the first shot on goal didn’t come until the 8:08 mark of the opening period, capped by Cooley’s score from the left circle. Interestingly, the other two goals for Utah were a result of fortunate bounces off Vegas players.

Meanwhile, the Golden Knights face challenges on the road, having a record of 0-3-1 away from home. They will shift gears soon as nine of their next eleven games will be played on the road.

**Defining Moment**

As the second intermission approached, it seemed Utah would head into the break with a 2-1 lead. However, Hanifin’s deft tip of a loose puck with merely a second remaining managed to equalize the match and shift momentum.

**Notable Achievement**

Tomas Hertl, the center for the Golden Knights, achieved a career milestone by recording his 500th career point with the primary assist on Dorofeyev’s goal in the second period. Hertl, who joined the team from San Jose last season, became only the second player from the 2012 draft class to reach this milestone, alongside Filip Forsberg.

**Looking Ahead**

Utah will face the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, while the Golden Knights are set to visit the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.
