EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York Giants face a significant setback as their left tackle Andrew Thomas will be sidelined for the remainder of the season following foot surgery performed on Wednesday. This information was confirmed by a source familiar with the situation, who requested anonymity since the team had yet to officially announce the surgery details regarding Thomas, who sustained the injury during a late-game moment in a 17-7 defeat against the Cincinnati Bengals last weekend.

Head Coach Brian Daboll was expected to hold a press conference later that day, just before the Giants, holding a 2-4 record, commenced practice for their upcoming home match against the Philadelphia Eagles, who are currently at 3-2.

The surgery was reported to address a Lisfranc injury, with the NFL Network being the first outlet to break the news. The implications of losing Thomas are considerable, as his skills have been integral to the Giants’ offensive line since he signed a lucrative five-year contract worth $117.5 million in 2023.

Now, the team must consider strategies to fill the gap left by Thomas’s absence. A potential solution could involve shifting Jermaine Eluemunor from his position at right tackle to left tackle, while either Evan Neal or Joshua Ezeudu could take over duties on the right side. Neal, who was drafted seventh overall in 2022, has been a starting right tackle; however, he has faced challenges on the field and missed significant time last season and the beginning of training camp due to ankle surgery.
