Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt shared on Wednesday that he has resumed his duties after undergoing heart surgery to address a major blockage in an artery. Stitt, a member of the Republican party currently serving his second term, revealed in a statement that he recently underwent a procedure to have a stent placed in the obstructed artery.

Feeling grateful for the care he received, Stitt expressed his appreciation, saying, “Happy to share I’m back at work and doing great … a huge thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Oklahoma Heart Hospital South for their care and expertise.” In a bid to raise awareness about heart health, the 51-year-old Governor also urged the public to prioritize regular checkups and heart health in his statement.

According to Stitt’s spokesperson, Abegail Cave, the Governor’s condition was uncovered during a routine checkup. Upon this discovery, Stitt underwent intravenous surgery last Friday to address the blockage by inserting a stent. The successful procedure has allowed him to return to his official responsibilities.
