Missouri man indicted for murder after allegedly imprisoning and torturing woman for weeks

A man from Missouri who was already facing charges for keeping a woman captive in his basement and sexually assaulting her has now been indicted for the murder of another woman. Timothy M. Haslett of Excelsior Springs has been charged with the murder of 36-year-old Jaynie Crosdale, with the prosecutor stating that she was killed through an act of violent homicide involving gunshot wounds on her remains.
Haslett was previously charged with rape, sodomy, assault, kidnapping, and endangering the welfare of a child. He is currently being held in the Clay County Detention Center under a $5 million bond.
In October 2022, Haslett was arrested after a woman managed to escape from his basement where she had been held captive and tortured for weeks. The survivor reported that Haslett had abducted her, held her at gunpoint, raped her, and subjected her to abuse and narcotics. She eventually broke free when she found an opportunity.
The survivor also informed police that Haslett had confessed to killing two other women in a similar manner. Law enforcement officers spent extensive time investigating the case, which led to the discovery of Crosdale’s remains in a barrel found in Saline County in June 2023.
The charges brought against Haslett this week are based on the current available evidence, although the investigation is ongoing. The prosecutor, Zachary Thompson, emphasized the importance of seeking justice for the victims and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Thompson described the actions of the defendant as brutal and barbaric, emphasizing the need to continue the pursuit of justice for the victims, their families, and the community as a whole.
