Fresno, California — On Saturday, Fresno State announced the suspension of two of its leading scorers from the men’s basketball team and the removal of a third player as the institution faces allegations related to gambling activities.
The university released a statement indicating that Jalen Weaver and Zaon Collins will not be participating in games while officials look into a matter concerning their eligibility. The statement confirmed that additional comments would not be provided at this moment.
Reports from ESPN revealed that Mykell Robinson, who has been absent from the court since January 11, is officially no longer part of the team.
Initial findings regarding an internal investigation at Fresno State were presented by the Fresno Bee, prompting school representatives to reach out to the NCAA, which has also initiated its own investigation.
The Bulldogs are currently struggling, holding a 5-23 record and standing at 1-16 in Mountain West play— already setting a record for most losses in a single season. They were in search of ending a nine-game losing streak on Saturday when they faced off against Air Force, ultimately falling short with a score of 72-69.
Weaver, who has been a pivotal player this season, was averaging 12.5 points a game and was the team leader with 4.7 assists. Collins contributed an average of 12.0 points, while Robinson managed to score 10.3 points and secured 6.2 rebounds per game.
