COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — In an eventful match coming after a two-hour weather delay, Djordje Mihailovic and Calvin Harris propelled the Colorado Rapids to a 2-0 victory against the LA Galaxy on Wednesday night. The win marked an end to Colorado’s previous three-game losing streak, providing much-needed relief for the team.
The Rapids, now at a record of 7-8-4, managed to end a lengthy scoring drought that lasted 261 minutes. This was significantly boosted by Mihailovic’s eighth goal of the season, which he netted by heading in a well-placed cross delivered by Sam Vines. Just four minutes later, Calvin Harris, making his first start of the season, scored his second goal out of 12 appearances, solidifying the lead.
Harris continued to put pressure on the Galaxy’s defense, almost extending the lead to three goals in the 55th minute with a close shot that unfortunately ricocheted off the post. Despite missing that opportunity, the Rapids maintained their two-goal advantage.
Defensively, rookie goalkeeper Nico Hansen exhibited an impressive performance, securing his third clean sheet in just his seventh start. Hansen has filled in admirably for the injured Zack Steffen since May 17, showcasing his potential in goal.
For the Galaxy, who now stand at 1-13-5, the defeat was their first against the Rapids since May 6, 2023, highlighting ongoing challenges within their squad this season.
