MILAN — Santiago Giménez, a former forward for Feyenoord, continued his impressive goal-scoring form in the Champions League this season, finding the net against his former team. However, his early strike for AC Milan ultimately proved inconsequential as they faced a setback when teammate Theo Hernandez received a red card in the second half. This allowed Feyenoord to equalize, advancing with a 2-1 lead on aggregate in the knockout stage.
Giménez, who made a significant move to Milan from Feyenoord last month for a reported fee of 30 million euros (approximately $31 million), opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the second leg of their playoff on Tuesday night. The 23-year-old forward from Mexico scored with a close-range header but raised his hands in apology after netting the goal against the club he had recently departed.
This latest goal marked Giménez’s sixth in just seven Champions League appearances this season, although all his prior goals were scored while he was still with Feyenoord. Additionally, he has already found the back of the net twice for Milan in Serie A since his transfer.
In the first leg held last week, Feyenoord secured a narrow 1-0 victory, capitalizing on an unusual mistake by Milan’s goalkeeper, Mike Maignan.
