ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders have announced the addition of Jesse Madden, the grandson of the legendary John Madden, to their coaching staff as an offensive quality control coach.

Jesse Madden, who recently graduated from the University of Michigan, initially played as a quarterback during his freshman year in 2021 before transitioning to defensive back. He contributed to Michigan’s national championship run in 2024, showcasing his versatility and skill on the field.

John Madden, a revered figure in football history, holds a distinguished record of 103 wins, 32 losses, and 7 ties over ten seasons coaching the Oakland Raiders. He notably led the team to victory in the Super Bowl during the 1976 season and later established a successful career as a broadcaster, becoming a household name in the sport.

In addition to Madden’s hiring, the Commanders have also brought on board Brian Schneider as the assistant special teams coordinator. Schneider is set to begin his 18th year as an NFL coach and previously served as the special teams coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2022 and 2023. From 2010 to 2020, he held the same position with the Seattle Seahawks, where his special teams units excelled, ranking first in the league for takeaways with 26 and second in blocked kicks with 24 during his tenure.

The Commanders are clearly focusing on enhancing their coaching staff as they prepare for the upcoming season, bringing in individuals with notable backgrounds and experience to bolster the team’s prospects.
