INDIANAPOLIS — In a standout performance, Pierre Brooks scored 29 points, guiding the Butler Bulldogs to an impressive 86-69 victory over the DePaul Blue Demons on Saturday night.
With a double-double, Brooks also contributed 13 rebounds to the Bulldogs’ efforts, improving their record to 9-11 overall and 2-7 in the Big East Conference. Jahmyl Telfort played a significant role as well, shooting 7 of 12 from the field and finishing with 18 points, which included a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Finley Bizjack chipped in 17 points, shooting 50% from the field and making four three-pointers.
On the other side, N.J. Benson led the Blue Demons with 20 points and nine rebounds, while CJ Gunn and Conor Enright added 16 and 12 points, respectively, with Enright also contributing six assists. The Blue Demons’ record now stands at 10-11 overall, with a disappointing 1-9 mark in the conference.
Butler seized control of the game late in the first half, taking the lead with just over two minutes remaining before halftime. They went into the break ahead 40-33, with Brooks tallying 13 points in the first half. The Bulldogs maintained momentum with a sharp start to the second half, executing a 10-0 run that widened their lead to 14 points. They outscored DePaul by 10 in the second half, with Brooks leading the charge, netting 16 points in that period alone.
This decisive win provided Butler with a much-needed boost, showcasing their potential as they look to improve their standing in the conference as the season progresses.
