EDINBURGH, Scotland — In a significant setback for the Scottish rugby team ahead of the Six Nations, captain Sione Tuipulotu has been sidelined due to injury.
The center, who was born in Australia, suffered a pectoral muscle injury during a recent training session with his club, the Glasgow Warriors.
As a result, he will undergo surgery and is anticipated to be back in action before the season concludes, according to the Scottish Rugby Union.
In Tuipulotu’s absence, Rory Darge and Finn Russell will take on the co-captaincy role for Scotland during the Six Nations tournament, which is set to kick off on January 31, with France facing off against Wales.
Scotland’s opening match will take place against Italy on February 1.
Additionally, the Scottish Rugby Union confirmed that lock Scott Cummings suffered an arm fracture while playing for Glasgow in a match against Harlequins during the European Champions Cup on Saturday, putting his participation in the tournament in jeopardy as well.
