CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Carson Beck has made a significant decision to join the Miami Hurricanes. The former quarterback from Georgia has opted to postpone his aspirations for the NFL, choosing instead to commit to playing for Miami next season. This announcement was made public on Friday, marking another key acquisition for the Hurricanes through the transfer portal.
In a concise statement shared on social media, Beck conveyed his excitement with the phrase “Go Canes,” accompanied by a photo of himself donning a Miami jersey, embellished with the words “Committed” and “305 Bound,” referencing the Miami area code.
Prior to making his intentions known, Beck entered into a grant-in-aid agreement with the Hurricanes, as per reliable sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the confidentiality of the situation between the parties involved.
This development suggests that Beck, who is currently on the mend following elbow surgery aimed at repairing his right ulnar collateral ligament, is set to take over the quarterback role previously held by Cam Ward for the 2025 season. Initially, Beck had declared for the NFL draft but shifted gears to enter the transfer portal earlier this week before finalizing his move to Miami.
In a personal twist, Beck is dating Hanna Cavinder, a guard on the Miami women’s basketball team. After Beck’s announcement, Cavinder shared her enthusiasm with a post stating, “It’s a great day to be a Miami hurricane.” The women’s basketball program on X also made a subtle nod to the football news by showcasing what it referred to as Cavinder’s top assists from the current season.
Haley Cavinder, Hanna’s twin sister and her teammate, welcomed Beck on Instagram with the phrase “Welcome to the good life.”
Beck’s college career spans five seasons at Georgia, with the last two as the main starting quarterback. During this time, Beck achieved a completion rate of 68%, totaling 7,912 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions across 39 games, of which 27 were played in the previous two seasons. Under his leadership, the Bulldogs posted an impressive 24-3 record in those 27 games.
He appears to be on a trajectory similar to that of Cam Ward, who contemplated entering the 2024 NFL draft before ultimately deciding to play for Miami. Ward had a record-breaking season, setting new single-season benchmarks by completing 305 passes for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns. He leaves as the Hurricanes’ top performer in completion percentage, surpassing both the seasonal and career records previously held by Tyler Van Dyke and D’Eriq King.
Given that Ward is predicted to be a strong candidate for the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, Miami was anticipated to seek out a quarterback in the transfer portal. Emory Williams took the reins during the second half of the Pop-Tarts Bowl, filling in after Ward’s performance was cut short. However, Williams struggled, completing only 5 of 14 passes for 26 yards, as Miami saw a 10-point lead evaporate, resulting in a tight 42-41 defeat to Iowa State.
