Palat nets third goal in four outings as Devils defeat Blues 4-1

ST. LOUIS — The New Jersey Devils claimed a decisive 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night, with Ondrej Palat and Stefan Noesen each contributing a goal to the win. The Devils also saw Brenden Dillon finding the back of the net alongside an empty-net goal from Jesper Bratt, marking their third consecutive victory and fifth in their last seven matches. Goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom recorded 19 saves throughout the contest.

For the Blues, Jordan Kyrou scored their lone goal, and Jordan Binnington was credited with 24 saves. Palat opened the scoring for New Jersey late in the first period, netting his third goal in four games with just under five minutes remaining in the first. He achieved this with a powerful slap shot following a contributing entry pass from Luke Hughes.

Noesen celebrated his 400th career game by extending the Devils’ lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal in the second period, precisely 6:51 into the frame. Dillon then added to this advantage early in the third period with an unassisted effort. Kyrou’s goal in the middle of the third period marked his sixth consecutive game with points, tallying five goals and one assist during this stretch.

In notable developments for the Devils, Curtis Lazar returned to the lineup after a lower-body injury that sidelined him since October 27, taking a pivotal role at center between Tomas Tatar and Nathan Bastian. Meanwhile, the Blues saw their point streaks snapped, with Robert Thomas ending his seven-game run and Pavel Buchnevich’s six-game streak coming to a halt as well.

A pivotal moment occurred in the first period when Markstrom’s pad saved a challenging shot from Dylan Holloway, which had the potential to score as it trickled through the Devils’ defense. Earlier in the period, Markstrom benefitted from a fortunate bounce off the post following Kyrou’s shot, preventing what could have been a score for St. Louis.

Statistically, New Jersey improved to an impressive 12-4 on the road this season and has successfully limited their opponents to 20 shots or fewer for four consecutive games.

Looking ahead, the Devils are set to face off against Columbus on Thursday, while the Blues will embark on a three-game road trip, beginning with a match in Tampa Bay on the same day.
