Border patrol agent pleads guilty to violating women’s rights

Shane Millan, a 53-year-old former Border Patrol agent from Jefferson County, pleaded guilty to civil rights violations. He admitted to using his position to break the law. Millan made women expose their breasts while processing them for entry into the United States. This happened during virtual border checks. Millan falsely claimed the requests were part of official searches. But in reality, his actions were for his personal satisfaction, not for any legal reason.

What Millan did and how he misused his power as border patrol

While working as a Border Patrol agent, Millan forced women to show their bare chests via webcam. He told them it was part of the routine processing. He claimed the requests were necessary for their admission into the United States. However, Millan knew these demands were not legitimate. They had nothing to do with law enforcement. Millan used his position of power to take advantage of the women. His actions were a clear violation of their rights. They should have been free from unreasonable searches.

Millan now faces serious legal consequences. He pleaded guilty to two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law. This means he used his position as a Border patrol agent to violate the constitutional rights of the victims. The U.S. Attorney’s Office made this announcement after the guilty plea. Millan’s actions were not only wrong, but they were also illegal. They showed a clear abuse of authority. The victims were taken advantage of, and their privacy was violated.

Millan will be sentenced on July 7. The judge will decide the penalty. He could spend up to two years in prison. In addition, he might face a fine of $200,000. This could be the price he pays for his crimes as border patrol. The judge will consider the law Millan broke, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other factors when deciding his sentence. It is important that the penalty reflects the seriousness of his actions.

How the court will decide Millan’s sentence

The court will carefully review all the details of the case. The judge will look at Millan’s behavior and how it impacted the victims. The U.S. Sentencing Guidelines will help the judge determine the right punishment. These guidelines are used in every criminal case to make the sentence fair. However, other factors will also play a role in Millan’s sentence. The judge will use all the information available to make the final decision.
