CORVALLIS, Ore. — The No. 8 seed Oregon State Beavers secured a berth in the College World Series with a thrilling 14-10 victory over Florida State in the Corvallis Super Regional on Sunday evening. The decisive game saw Trent Caraway smash a grand slam and Gavin Turley contribute a crucial two-run homer in the third inning, propelling Oregon State to clinch the best-of-three series.
This achievement marks the Beavers’ eighth appearance in the College World Series and their first since clinching the title in 2018. The game took a dramatic turn when Krieg’s walk, Reeder getting hit by a pitch, and McEntire’s drawn walk set the stage for Caraway’s grand slam. This was swiftly followed by Turley’s two-run shot, elevating the team’s lead to 13-3.
The game began with Florida State’s Max Williams hitting a two-run homer in the first inning. However, Oregon State answered back in the bottom of the inning. Reeder launched a three-run home run off Florida State’s starter, Wes Mendes, and was soon followed by McEntire’s solo shot, increasing Oregon State’s lead to 7-2.
Florida State’s offense included a solo shot from Chase Williams in the second inning and RBI plays from Lodise in the fourth. Despite Tyce Peterson’s solo homer for Oregon State in the same inning, the Seminoles kept the pressure with Jaxson West and Gage Harrelson driving in runs in the fifth inning. Myles Bailey later hit a two-run homer in the sixth, trimming the score to 14-8.
In the ninth inning, Brody DeLamielleure and Gage Harrelson each secured an RBI to close the game’s scoring. Despite Florida State’s persistent effort, their attempt to avoid elimination ended with a defeat after having previously won the second game of the series 3-1.
This series marked Florida State’s 19th appearance in a super regional. With a storied history that includes 61 postseason appearances and an impressive 211 postseason wins, they rank closely behind Texas in NCAA postseason records.
Oregon State’s victory ensures their return to the national stage, continuing to build on a legacy of baseball excellence. As they aim for further triumphs in the College World Series, the Beavers prepare to showcase their talent in Omaha once again.
