DOVER, Del. – In an intense matchup on Saturday, South Carolina State overcame Delaware State 94-88 in an exciting overtime finish, thanks in large part to the impressive performance by Mitchel Taylor, who scored 23 points.
Taylor was particularly efficient, hitting 6 of 7 attempts from the field and going a perfect 10 for 10 from the free-throw line, leading his team, the Bulldogs, to an improved record of 14-12 overall and 7-3 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Supporting Taylor’s effort, Drayton Jones contributed significantly with 19 points, capitalizing on 5 of 7 field-goal attempts and converting 9 of 11 free throws. Wilson Dubinsky also played a crucial role, finishing the game with 16 points, which included three successful 3-pointers on 6 attempts, while also securing nine rebounds.
On the opposing side, the Hornets fought valiantly, with Martaz Robinson stepping up as their top player, scoring 28 points along with three steals. Robert Smith also made a strong impact for Delaware State with 23 points and another three steals. Kaseem Watson rounded out the notable performances for the Hornets by adding 19 points and four assists to the mix, concluding a competitive encounter.
