BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — In an impressive showing on Thursday night, Yarden Garzon contributed significantly with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, while teammates Sydney Parrish and Shay Ciezki also added 16 points each. The Indiana Hoosiers achieved a 71-61 victory over the No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes, showcasing their shooting prowess by sinking nine 3-pointers during the game.

Garzon’s performance included three successful three-point attempts, while Parrish and Ciezki each connected on two. The Hoosiers (17-9, 9-6 Big Ten) surged ahead with a commanding 57-39 advantage after three quarters. In contrast, Ohio State (22-4, 11-4) struggled from long range, finishing the night with 6 of 18 shots from beyond the arc compared to Indiana’s 9 of 17.

Jaloni Cambridge led the Buckeyes with 18 points, and Cotie McMahon added 14. Ohio State managed to tie the game early in the second quarter but fell behind by double digits for most of the second half, never managing to close the gap significantly.

In terms of conference performance, Ohio State finds itself at 4-4 in road games, having narrowly escaped defeat in their previous two home matches. Their inconsistency away from home raises concerns for a team ranked in the top 10, particularly given their 0-4 record when scoring 63 points or fewer this season.

For Indiana, the victory marks their 4-3 record against ranked opponents this season. Though they face a different landscape than in previous years, the Hoosiers have proven to be a formidable contender that can challenge tough teams on any given night.

A pivotal moment in the game occurred when Ohio State opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run that tied the contest at 26. However, the Hoosiers responded strongly, closing the half with a 14-2 run, establishing a 40-28 lead going into halftime. During the final minutes of the half, the Buckeyes struggled offensively, failing to score and committing three turnovers within the last 3:42 of play.

One of the standout statistics from the game illustrates Indiana’s superior teamwork, as they recorded 21 assists compared to Ohio State’s mere 6 assists, highlighting their ability to effectively share the basketball.

Looking ahead, Ohio State is set to face Purdue on Sunday, while Indiana will take on No. 22 Michigan State on the same day.
