PHILADELPHIA — On Thursday night, Sam Sherry contributed significantly to Elon’s victory over Drexel, scoring 19 points in a strong performance that helped the Phoenix secure a 65-54 win.
Sherry also grabbed nine rebounds for the Phoenix (13-5, 4-1 Coastal Athletic Association), while TJ Simpkins added another 15 points, demonstrating impressive shooting accuracy by going 5 of 6 from the floor and hitting all four of his free throw attempts. TK Simpkins also scored 15 points, making an effective impact by nailing 4 out of 6 attempts from beyond the arc and finishing the game with 5 of 13 shooting overall.
For the Dragons (10-8, 2-3), Kobe Magee was the standout performer, tallying 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Jason Drake contributed 15 points to the team’s efforts, while Yame Butler chipped in with 11 points, keeping the contest competitive.
In the first half, Sherry was instrumental for Elon, leading the team with 13 points and helping establish a 37-31 advantage going into halftime. The Phoenix extended their lead in the second half through a decisive 10-2 run, securing a 47-37 cushion with just over 11 minutes remaining.
Looking ahead, Elon is set to face Delaware in an away game on Saturday, while Drexel will host Hofstra on Monday, seeking to bounce back from this defeat.
