ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Los Angeles Angels have bolstered their roster by acquiring seasoned player LaMonte Wade Jr. along with some cash considerations from the San Francisco Giants. This transaction, finalized on Sunday, sees Wade heading to Los Angeles while the Giants receive either a player to be named later or cash in exchange.
Wade, who is 31 years old, joined the Giants in 2021 and was recently designated for assignment. To accommodate Wade on their 40-man roster, the Angels opted to designate right-handed pitcher Michael Darrell-Hicks for assignment.
In the current season, Wade has struggled, posting a .167 batting average with one home run and 15 RBIs. His recent performances have been tough, including a 2-for-17 batting stretch during the Giants’ latest road games. Despite these challenges, Wade enjoyed a career peak last season, achieving a .260 batting average and earning a strong reputation for his clutch hitting in critical moments.
The Angels’ current lineup features Nolan Schanuel at first base, with six outfielders on the roster, some of whom offer positional flexibility.
Notably, this transaction also highlights a familial connection in the management ranks, as Angels General Manager Perry Minasian and Giants General Manager Zack Minasian are brothers.
