NEW ORLEANS — Kyren Lacy, a former wide receiver for LSU, is currently being investigated by the Louisiana State Police due to a vehicular incident that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man in Lafourche Parish last December.
Lacy, who completed his degree from LSU in December and has since entered the NFL Draft, is accused of engaging in reckless driving behaviors, including speeding and unlawfully passing other vehicles. Reports indicate that a motorist, trying to avoid Lacy’s Dodge Charger, collided head-on with another car as a result of Lacy’s maneuvers.
Authorities from State Police Troop C in Gray, Louisiana, report that the 24-year-old Lacy allegedly left the scene of the accident without offering assistance or contacting emergency services. As a result, they have issued an arrest warrant against him for charges including negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving.
The individual who died in the crash, Herman Hall from Thibodaux, Louisiana, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital, according to the findings from the state police.
Law enforcement officials are currently in discussions with Lacy’s legal team concerning when Lacy is expected to surrender. However, details about his attorney have not been disclosed.
Lacy, hailing from Thibodaux, had a notable season with the LSU Tigers, finishing second on the team with 58 receptions and 866 receiving yards, while leading in touchdown receptions with nine over 12 games.
Just days following the incident, Lacy announced his intention to enter the NFL Draft and did not participate in LSU’s victory over Baylor during the Texas Bowl held on December 31.
A representative for LSU, Michael Bonnette, stated that the university will refrain from commenting further on the matter out of respect for the unfolding legal proceedings.
