In Los Angeles, police have shared footage of an incident involving Jillian Lauren, an author and spouse of a member from the band Weezer. The confrontation that occurred in a backyard setting led to a burst of gunfire. Lauren survived the ordeal with non-life-threatening injuries following the events on April 8 in Eagle Rock, an area situated in northeastern Los Angeles. At the time of the incident, police and the California Highway Patrol were actively searching for three individuals who had fled a car crash.
Jillian Lauren, identified by authorities as Jillian Lauren Shriner, was apprehended and later released on a $1 million bond under suspicion of attempted murder, pending further investigation. Her upcoming court appearance is slated for April 30.
Recently, the police disclosed excerpts including body camera footage, surveillance video, and 911 dispatch audio. These recordings capture officers yelling over a noisy helicopter, urging Lauren to discard her weapon or risk being shot. Because of a tall wooden fence, the cameras couldn’t capture what was on the other side.
Officers can be heard attempting to de-escalate the situation through their dialogue: “Ma’am, we’re trying to help you. Put the gun down,” one officer insists. “You’re going to get shot. It’s the police,” warns the voice sternly. There’s a moment when an officer realizes Lauren has cocked her firearm, noted with, “Oh, she racked it,” followed by at least six gunshots.
Another segment of video, silent this time, depicts Lauren stepping out of her house barefoot, clutching a pistol in her right hand within her garden. Another angle illustrates Lauren from behind, seemingly lifting a gun that briefly appears. The ground nearby is disturbed as if bullets struck it, and then Lauren retreats toward the house.
Following the confrontation, more body camera records show officers finding Lauren lying face down in the middle of a street, recording her being handcuffed, with attention drawn to a wound on her arm.
In addition to being connected with Weezer through her husband, Scott Shriner—who became part of the band in the early 2000s—Lauren is also recognized as an accomplished author of two best-selling memoirs, 2010’s “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem” and 2015’s “Everything You Ever Wanted.” Weezer, hailing from Los Angeles, gained widespread acclaim with their 1994 album, unofficially dubbed the “Blue Album,” featuring hits like “Say It Ain’t So.”
