Ames, Iowa — In an impressive display, Keshon Gilbert recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds, guiding No. 3 Iowa State to a decisive 74-55 victory over No. 25 Baylor during the Cyclones’ Big 12 home opener on Saturday.

Gilbert achieved his first double-double of the season and marked the fourth of his entire career for Iowa State (12-1, 2-0 Big 12), extending their winning streak to nine games.

Milan Momcilovic contributed significantly, scoring 15 points by going 4-of-7 from the field, with all his successful shots originating from beyond the arc. He also converted 3 of 4 free throws. Curtis Jones came off the bench to add another 14 points and contributed four steals for the Cyclones.

On the opposing team, Baylor (9-4, 1-1 Big 12) faced challenges, with Jeremy Roach leading their scoring with 16 points. Josh Ojianwuna contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Robert Wright added 10 points as a substitute. This loss marked the end of a four-game winning streak for the Bears.

In terms of takeaways from the game, Baylor struggled significantly, managing only 29.7% shooting (19-of-64) from the field — their lowest efficiency this season. This was particularly surprising considering the team had averaged a high-scoring 86.4 points per game prior to this matchup.

Iowa State capitalized on Baylor’s offensive difficulties, shooting at a commendable 49% (24-of-49) from the field, which played a crucial role in their 19-point triumph.

The turning point of the game came during a notable 15-3 run by Iowa State in the latter stages of the second half, allowing them to establish their largest lead of 24 points over Baylor.

A noteworthy statistic from the game was the performance of Baylor’s top scorer, Norchad Omier, who was limited to just nine points on a disappointing 3-of-11 shooting, including a difficult 1-of-7 from three-point territory. He also grabbed 10 rebounds throughout the match.

Looking ahead, Iowa State will be hosting Utah on Tuesday, while Baylor is set to face No. 16 Cincinnati on the same day.
