LIVERPOOL, England — Trent Alexander-Arnold has shown unwavering dedication to Liverpool, as stated by manager Arne Slot during a press conference held on Friday. This comes amid speculation linking the England right-back with a move to Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold’s current deal with Liverpool is set to conclude at the end of the season, which allows him to negotiate a pre-contract with any other club if he chooses. Reports have emerged indicating that Madrid is keen on acquiring him. Earlier inquiries from the European champions in late December did not succeed in prying him away from Liverpool.
In preparation for the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday, Slot addressed the media regarding Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation. While he confirmed having a conversation with the player, he refrained from sharing specific details. When pressed about whether Alexander-Arnold would continue with Liverpool past January, Slot simply remarked, “I can assure you he will be on the pitch this Sunday, and I’m hopeful he delivers performances akin to those we’ve witnessed over the last six months. His remarkable first half of the season has been evident to everyone, and it’s clear how dedicated he is to our success. I’m privileged to watch his commitment every day in training.”
Slot expressed confidence that the speculation about Madrid’s interest would not distract Alexander-Arnold. He noted, “If discussions from outside were to unsettle players at Liverpool, we would genuinely face a dilemma. Playing for one of the world’s premier clubs means that for an entire year, players will be subject to endless talk about them, often in relation to other clubs. This has been a constant occurrence for our squad, so if that kind of speculation were to disrupt them, we would have had challenges not just now, but over the past six months as well.”
In addition, it was highlighted that other significant players, such as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, are also in the same contractual situation, with their deals set to expire at the end of the current season.
