The New York Jets have conducted an interview with Jim Nagy, the executive director of the Senior Bowl, as they continue their search for a new general manager.
Nagy marks the third confirmed candidate to engage with the team regarding the GM position. Previously, the Jets had conversations with former Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff and former Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson.
This search emerges following the dismissal of Joe Douglas on November 19, as the Jets, currently sitting at a disappointing 4-10 record, have missed the playoffs for the 14th consecutive year. In the interim, Phil Savage has stepped up to oversee the team’s operations as the acting general manager.
Since 2018, Nagy has led the Senior Bowl, which showcases college football’s top talents at the postseason all-star game in Mobile, Alabama. His responsibilities include managing both the football and business sides of the event.
Before his current role, Nagy worked as an NFL scout, most recently with the Seattle Seahawks from 2013 to 2018. His scouting experience also extends to other franchises, including Green Bay, Washington, New England, and Kansas City, demonstrating a well-rounded background in player evaluation.
In addition to the GM search, the Jets are actively looking for a new head coach following the release of Robert Saleh on October 8. Jeff Ulbrich, the team’s defensive coordinator, has taken over as the interim head coach during this transition period.
To assist with their searches for both a general manager and a head coach, owner Woody Johnson has enlisted the help of The 33rd Team, a consulting group formed by former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum. Tannenbaum, along with former Dolphins and Vikings GM Rick Spielman, is tasked with identifying suitable candidates for both positions and facilitating interviews.
