Giants Prepare for Ravens Amid Quarterback Changes

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — With Drew Lock sporting a walking boot due to a heel injury, the New York Giants are considering bringing Tommy DeVito back as the starting quarterback this Sunday as they aim to snap an eight-game losing streak against the Baltimore Ravens.

Head Coach Brian Daboll confirmed the injury on Wednesday, right before the Giants (2-11) began their preparations for the matchup with the Ravens (8-5) at MetLife Stadium, where the team is still searching for their first home win this season after seven attempts.

Lock sustained his injury last weekend when the Saints managed to sack him twice, resulting in 13 quarterback hits during a narrow 14-11 loss.

“You’ve always got to stay ready for whatever comes your way,” DeVito remarked after practice. “This season has been a bit chaotic, but at this point, there are really no surprises left. It’s important to remain prepared. Whoever steps onto the field, we’re all committed to supporting them.”

The quarterback situation has been tumultuous for the Giants since they benched and eventually released Daniel Jones on November 22.

DeVito, an undrafted rookie free agent, helped the Giants secure three victories this season. He made a start against Tampa Bay on November 24, completing 21 of 31 passes for a total of 189 yards, but suffered a right forearm injury late in the game, which ended in a 30-7 defeat.

Despite the ongoing losing streak, DeVito mentioned that he feels his arm has recovered well and he isn’t anxious about the team’s struggles. “I believe my focus should be on proving to myself that I truly belong here. I aim to perform at my highest potential consistently and attempt to win games, which is ultimately what matters,” DeVito stated.

Meanwhile, tight end Daniel Bellinger highlighted that the biggest adjustment receivers need to make is getting accustomed to DeVito’s cadence.

Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, who leads the Giants with 80 receptions for 819 yards and three touchdowns, added, “I don’t find it challenging at all. I’ve caught enough passes from him and run plenty of routes with him to feel comfortable. We both understand the playbook, so it’s just another challenge to overcome.”

Lock has started in the Thanksgiving loss against the Cowboys and again in the game against the Saints, where New Orleans blocked a last-minute field goal attempt by Graham Gano that could have sent the game into overtime.
