NEW YORK — Hannes Wolf put in an outstanding performance with two goals, matching his feat from the previous game, as New York City FC triumphed over Atlanta United with a 4-0 victory on Thursday evening. Maxi Moralez contributed significantly with a goal and an assist, increasing NYCFC’s momentum.

For the first time in the club’s history, New York City (8-6-4) managed to score three times within a rapid five-minute period, showcasing their attacking prowess. This impressive streak began in the 55th minute when Mounsef Bakrar capitalized on an opportunity, slamming a one-touch shot into the net from the penalty spot, shortly after nearly scoring on a breakaway chance against Brad Guzan.

Wolf added the third goal in the 57th minute with a skillful shot from a tight angle. He further demonstrated his clinical finishing just two minutes later by netting another goal in a one-on-one face-off with Guzan. Although Guzan managed a touch, the ball rolled past him into the net, confirming Wolf’s dominant form.

Atlanta United (4-9-5) continued their woes on the road, struggling to secure results. Their hope to achieve a historic first away win against NYCFC remained unfulfilled as they endured their fifth defeat in their last six away fixtures without a victory.

Tomás Romero had a significant milestone, as he was fielded as the starting goalkeeper for NYCFC, filling in during the absence of several first-team players due to international commitments. This marked his debut start in Major League Soccer.

The match also saw Ronny Deila, former NYCFC manager from 2020 to 2022, visit his old team’s stomping grounds as the manager of the visiting side for the first time, adding an extra layer of narrative to the evening’s events.
