CULLOWHEE, N.C. — In an exciting showdown on Saturday night, Brit Harris led South Carolina Upstate to a 74-68 victory over Western Carolina, contributing 16 crucial points to the team’s success.
Harris demonstrated impressive accuracy, hitting 6 of 9 shots from the field and converting 3 of 5 from the charity stripe for the Spartans, who now hold a record of 4-8. Carmelo Adkins supported the team with 14 points, shooting 5 for 8 overall and knocking down 2 of 4 attempts from beyond the arc while also seizing five rebounds. Karmani Gregory added to the scoreboard with 11 points, finishing 4 of 13 from the field and hitting 3 of 5 free throws, although he struggled from three-point range, going 0 for 3.
For Western Carolina, which now stands at 3-5, Bernard Pelote stood out as the top scorer, matching Adkins’ 14-point effort. Cord Stansberry also contributed significantly, with 14 points and three defensive steals. Additionally, CJ Hyland managed to score nine points while providing four assists to his teammates.
Both teams will look to capitalize on this matchup as they prepare for their respective games next Saturday. South Carolina Upstate is slated to take on South Carolina, while Western Carolina will face off against UNC Asheville on the road.
