The newly established Cadillac Formula 1 team will be headed by seasoned motorsports executive Graeme Lowdon, as announced by TWG Global and General Motors on Thursday.
Lowdon has been appointed the team principal for the two-car outfit, which is anticipated to enter the racing grid in 2026, coinciding with Formula 1’s expansion to accommodate an eleventh team from the United States.
“I am grateful to everyone who has shown their confidence in me,” stated Lowdon.
“Formula 1 represents the pinnacle of team sports, where the essence of a team lies in its people. This organization is fueled by a genuine passion for racing, and we possess the knowledge and skill to succeed.”
For the past two years, Lowdon has been a key advisor, participating in efforts to secure F1 entry for Andretti Global in collaboration with General Motors. After Michael Andretti withdrew last month, the expansion was officially authorized last week.
Lowdon brings extensive experience in team management, engineering, and operations from various elite motorsport series, including Formula 1 and the World Endurance Championship. Over the last two years, he has attended numerous F1 races, advocating for the American team.
“His dual expertise in both technical aspects and team management in Formula 1 and other motorsport projects will serve him effectively as he develops the Cadillac Formula 1 team,” remarked Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Global’s motorsport division.
Lowdon is also collaborating closely with General Motors, which will partner with the team under the Cadillac brand. Since the team’s engines will not be ready until 2028, they are expected to lease engines, likely from Ferrari, for the first couple of seasons.
“Working with Graeme over the last two years has been a true pleasure, and we are thrilled to have him at the helm of our journey to the 2026 Formula 1 grid,” said General Motors President Mark Reuss.
“His extensive racing knowledge, talent for building high-performing teams, and embodiment of the values we aim to represent both on and off the track are invaluable to the Cadillac Formula 1 Team.”
Cadillac F1 will mark the first new team to join the Formula 1 circuit since 2016. Lowdon has already taken the initiative in developing various aspects such as aerodynamics, chassis, component manufacturing, software, and vehicle dynamics simulations. The team has established operations in several locations, including Fishers, Indiana; Charlotte, North Carolina; Warren, Michigan; and Silverstone, England.
