MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — JJ Quinerly led the game with 27 points, while Kylee Blacksten contributed 17 as the No. 15 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers decisively defeated Texas A&M with a score of 83-62 on Friday evening.
With this victory, West Virginia has now achieved 32 consecutive wins in nonconference home games, a streak that dates back to the 2017-18 season. This includes a significant win against the Pittsburgh Panthers earlier in the week. Coach Mark Kellogg has maintained a perfect record of 13-0 in nonconference games since taking the helm of the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers opened the second half with a dominating performance, scoring the first 14 points to establish a commanding lead at 47-29. Blacksten’s fifth 3-pointer, marking a career-high for her, pushed the lead to 58-33, where she contributed 11 points in that quarter alone. Quinerly also found her rhythm in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points on perfect shooting, including two from beyond the arc.
On the shooting front, West Virginia excelled, successfully landing 60% of their 3-point attempts by making 12 out of 20. In contrast, Texas A&M managed only seven attempts from deep. Quinerly herself was impressive, sinking 4 out of 5 from three-point range.
In addition to Quinerly and Blacksten’s performances, Sydney Shaw added 12 points, hitting two 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Jordan Harrison, who had been leading the Mountaineers in scoring with an average of 19.3 points per game, struggled offensively, connecting on just 1 of 8 shots but contributing eight points and eight assists overall.
For Texas A&M, Aicha Coulibaly was a bright spot, scoring 21 points on an efficient 8 of 11 shooting. Sole Williams supported the effort with an additional 14 points.
West Virginia is set to face Bowling Green in their next matchup on Tuesday, while Texas A&M will return to their home court to take on Northwestern State on Sunday.
