ELON, N.C. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, New Hampshire triumphed over Elon with a score of 17-10. Logan Tomlinson shone for New Hampshire, contributing significantly with a touchdown both on the ground and through the air. A crucial interception by Duncan Moreland in the closing minute of the game sealed the victory for the Wildcats.
Elon had a chance to rally as they reached the New Hampshire 30-yard line with just two minutes left. However, a costly fumble pushed them back toward midfield. Quarterback Jack Salopek attempted to navigate the situation but could only manage a short gain of three yards. This set up a daunting fourth-and-22 from midfield, where Moreland intercepted Salopek’s pass, ensuring New Hampshire maintained their lead.
The Phoenix defense quickly responded, forcing the Wildcats into a three-and-out. Using their three available timeouts, Elon managed to regain possession with just 40 seconds remaining on the clock. However, the New Hampshire defense was relentless, sacking Salopek on consecutive plays. The game concluded when Wande Owens made a decisive tackle during a lateral attempt from the Elons squad.
For New Hampshire, quarterback Seth Morgan completed 16 of 29 passes, accruing 119 yards along with one touchdown and one interception. Tomlinson distinguished himself with his first career rushing touchdown in this game.
On the other side, Jack Salopek threw for 185 yards and an interception for Elon, who now holds a record of 1-5 this season. Meanwhile, TJ Thomas Jr. showed his skills on the ground, rushing for 78 yards and scoring a touchdown for the Phoenix. Since the two teams began their rivalry in 2014, New Hampshire now leads the series with a 7-2 record.
