A man from Missouri is now facing a murder charge in connection to a police chase that resulted in the death of an officer. Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer, 23, was initially charged with aggravated fleeing a stop or detention resulting in death following the chase on August 31. However, prosecutors decided to include an additional charge of second-degree murder on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when Wehmeyer attempted to evade a stop for speeding on U.S. 54 initiated by an Osage Beach officer. Another officer, Phylicia Carson, 33, joined the pursuit, and tragically crashed her squad car into a tree, causing it to catch fire. Carson, a mother of six, ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
As of Wednesday, attempts were made to contact Wehmeyer’s lawyer for a statement, but no response had been received.
