NATCHITOCHES, La. — In a decisive victory, Northwestern State emerged triumphant against Incarnate Word on Monday night with a final score of 73-57, thanks to a standout performance by Micah Thomas, who contributed 19 points.
In addition to his scoring, Thomas demonstrated defensive prowess by securing three steals for the Demons, who now hold a record of 16-15 and 12-8 in the Southland Conference. Teammate Jon Sanders delivered a strong showing as well, achieving 18 points, hitting 5 of 8 shots from the field, including an impressive 4 for 5 from beyond the arc, and remaining perfect from the free-throw line. Love Bettis added to the team’s success with 12 points, shooting 4 of 9 from the field and flawlessly executing 4 free throws, while also making five steals.
For the Cardinals, Lamin Sabally was a leading contributor with 15 points combined with six rebounds. Dylan Hayman added 13 points, and Davion Bailey contributed with 12 to Incarnate Word’s total score.
This win secures Northwestern State in fourth place for the regular season, granting them a bye for the first round in the upcoming conference tournament. Meanwhile, the Cardinals, as the seventh seed, are set to compete against No. 6 SE Louisiana in their opening round on Sunday.
