Marquette triumphs over Georgetown, 76-61

    WASHINGTON — On Saturday, David Joplin achieved a standout performance, scoring 17 points, as No. 21 Marquette triumphed over Georgetown with a 76-61 win.

    In addition to his scoring, Joplin contributed significantly on the boards, collecting nine rebounds, bolstering the Golden Eagles’ record to an impressive 22-7 overall and 13-5 in the Big East Conference. Ben Gold added to the effort, putting up 15 points while shooting 6-for-11 from the field, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Kam Jones chipped in with 13 points, though he struggled a bit from three-point range, going 0-for-5.

    Micah Peavy stood out for the Hoyas, leading their scoring with 15 points and adding six rebounds to his stat line. Curtis Williams contributed 14 points for Georgetown, while Jordan Burks also had a noteworthy game, adding 11 points alongside a commendable 10 rebounds and two steals.

    Marquette established dominance relatively early in the game, seizing the lead with 14:01 remaining in the first half. The Golden Eagles managed to widen the margin, reaching a halftime score of 39-22. Notably, Gold was instrumental in the first half, accumulating 13 points. In the second half, while Georgetown managed to outscore Marquette by two points, it wasn’t enough to overcome Marquette’s lead, with Chase Ross making his mark with a team-high eight points in the latter half.

    Next up, Marquette will confront UConn on the road this Wednesday, while Georgetown is set to face Villanova at home on Tuesday.
