JACKSON, Miss. — In an impressive display, Jayme Mitchell led the charge for Jackson State, securing 19 points to secure a 67-52 win over Texas Southern on Saturday night.
Mitchell made a significant impact for the Tigers with an additional five rebounds, contributing to Jackson State’s (11-17, 11-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference) strong performance. Shannon Grant was not far behind, adding 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Romelle Mansel’s effective shooting, going 5 of 9 from the field and 4 for 6 from the free-throw line, earned him 14 points along with 10 rebounds. After enduring a challenging start to their season at 0-13, Jackson State has risen to second place in the SWAC.
Texas Southern (13-16, 10-6) was paced by Kehlin Farooq, who scored 10 points and collected seven rebounds in the contest.
Looking ahead, both teams are gearing up for their next match-up on Monday. Jackson State will face Prairie View A&M at home, while Texas Southern is set to travel to Alcorn State.
