EDINBURG, Texas — Dekedran Thorn’s standout performance with 25 points propelled UT Rio Grande Valley to an 88-78 victory over New Orleans on Saturday.
Thorn also contributed three steals, playing a key role for the Vaqueros (15-15, 7-12 Southland Conference). Adding to the team’s triumph, Howard Fleming Jr. scored 19 points, secured 10 rebounds, and provided six assists. Cliff Davis was impressive from long range, shooting 6 for 11 overall and 4 for 9 from beyond the arc, accumulating a total of 16 points.
On the opposing side, JR Jacobs had an outstanding display for the Privateers (4-26, 2-17), registering 20 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Additionally, Theo Grant scored 18 points, while Michael Thomas contributed 14 points along with eight rebounds. This loss marked the 12th consecutive defeat for the Privateers.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to play on Monday. UT Rio Grande Valley is set to host SE Louisiana, while New Orleans will be on the road to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
