BATON ROUGE, La. — Flau’Jae Johnson shone brightly for No. 7 LSU as she sank three 3-pointers, including one from nearly 40 feet, contributing significantly to the team’s 79-63 victory against Georgia on Thursday night. Johnson’s efforts propelled her to a total of 21 points in the game.

In addition to Johnson’s impressive performance, Jersey Wolfenbarger recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Kailyn Gilbert added 15 points for the Tigers, who improved their record to 26-2 with an 11-2 mark in the SEC. The team managed to rebound effectively despite being without star power forward Aneesah Morrow, who missed the game following a foot injury sustained in the previous week’s contest against No. 2 Texas.

Trinity Turner was the standout for Georgia, scoring a game-high 28 points, but the Bulldogs (10-17, 2-11) struggled, suffering their ninth loss in ten games. Mia Woolfolk chipped in with 12 points, while Asia Avinger added 10. However, Georgia’s downfall was compounded by 17 turnovers, which allowed LSU to capitalize and convert those opportunities into 20 points.

LSU also saw contributions from Mikaylah Williams with 12 points and Sa’Myah Smith, who not only scored 11 points but also grabbed 12 rebounds, showcasing the team’s depth even without Morrow.

Analyzing the game, it was noted that freshmen played a critical role for the Bulldogs, contributing to 47% of their total scoring leading into the matchup, a figure that increased to 42 points during the game against LSU.

Morrow, who has been a key player this season, averaging 18.1 points and 14.4 rebounds, sat out due to pain in her foot; however, coach Kim Mulkey reassured that there was no structural damage and she is only expected to miss one game, marking this as her first absence of the season.

A pivotal moment in the game occurred when Johnson hit a deep three-pointer as the third quarter concluded, giving LSU a commanding 58-45 lead. From that point onward, Georgia was unable to mount a significant challenge as they fell behind by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Statistically, despite Morrow’s absence, LSU dominated the boards with 19 offensive rebounds, translating into 21 second-chance points compared to Georgia’s 11.

Looking ahead, Georgia will host No. 2 Texas on Monday, while LSU is set to play at No. 14 Kentucky on Sunday.
