Anochili-Killen scores 24 in Marshall’s 81-77 victory over Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. — Obinna Anochili-Killen led the Marshall Thundering Herd to a narrow 81-77 victory over Old Dominion on Thursday night, contributing significantly with 24 points.

Anochili-Killen also showcased his defensive skills by blocking four shots during the game, helping Marshall to improve their season record to 16-12, with a conference win-loss record of 9-6 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Mikal Dawson supported the team’s efforts with a solid performance, scoring 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting, although he struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 1 of 7 attempts. He also recorded seven rebounds and dished out five assists. Additionally, Dezayne Mingo finished with 12 points, converting 5 of 8 shots, and contributed eight rebounds along with six assists.

For the Old Dominion Monarchs, Sean Durugordon was the standout player with 19 points. He also grabbed six rebounds and made four steals, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win. The Monarchs, who now stand at 11-17 overall and 7-8 in the conference, also received 18 points from Robert Davis Jr. R.J. Blakney added 16 points, complemented by six rebounds and two steals, rounding out a strong effort from the team.

Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to play again on Saturday. Marshall will face Appalachian State, while Old Dominion will host Georgia State.
