SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — On Wednesday, the Colorado Rockies bolstered their bullpen by finalizing a one-year contract worth $2 million with left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander.
The 35-year-old Alexander recently played for the Athletics, where he recorded a 1-3 win-loss record alongside an impressive 2.56 earned run average (ERA) over 45 games.
As part of his new agreement, Alexander will receive a bonus of $200,000 every time he is traded, which adds an interesting layer to his contract.
Over his career, Alexander has participated in parts of ten seasons with various teams, including the Kansas City Royals (2015-2017), the Los Angeles Dodgers (2018-2021), the San Francisco Giants (2022-2023), and the Athletics. He has a career record of 20 wins and 15 losses, maintaining a solid ERA of 3.20 across 328 appearances, which includes 13 games as a starter.
He was part of the Dodgers’ roster during their 2020 World Series victory, although he did not make the active postseason roster.
Interestingly, Alexander was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 37th round of the 2007 amateur draft but chose not to sign after graduating high school. It wasn’t until three years later that he was picked by the Royals in the sixth round, this time coming out of Sonoma State University in California.
