WARSAW, Poland — On Tuesday, President Andrzej Duda of Poland announced that he has received confirmations from the United States regarding the steadfastness of its troop presence in Poland and across NATO’s eastern borders.

While the Trump administration has not disclosed any intentions to withdraw military forces from the region, it has emphasized the need for European nations to bolster their own defense measures. This position has raised concerns among NATO allies about the reliability of Washington’s historical commitments.

“There are no worries regarding a reduction of U.S. forces stationed in Poland or any withdrawal from its obligations for safeguarding this region of Europe,” Duda informed journalists in Warsaw.

He further expressed optimism in light of President Trump’s current efforts, stating, “I hope that the ongoing endeavors will lead to a resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.”

Duda, who has shown consistent support for Trump, made these remarks following a discussion with General Keith Kellogg, the U.S. special envoy focused on Ukraine and Russia. He noted that his reassurances were influenced by his recent dialogues, which included meetings with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, whom he welcomed in Warsaw the previous week.

In light of the evolving dynamics under the Trump administration, Duda urged the Polish public to “stay calm.”

The U.S. first sent troops to Poland in response to Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014. Subsequently, following Russia’s large-scale incursion into Ukraine in 2022, the troop numbers were augmented, leading to a more permanent military presence in Poland.
