SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced that they have officially signed right-handed relief pitcher Kendall Graveman to a one-year contract worth $1.35 million, as revealed on Monday.
At 34 years old, Graveman is expected to enhance the depth of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen and is likely to vie for the position of closer as the team moves into the new season. Following shoulder surgery to repair his right labrum in January 2024, he sat out the previous season but is now set to return to the mound.
Since transitioning to a full-time relief pitching role in 2021, Graveman has established himself with a commendable 2.74 earned run average (ERA) and has accumulated 193 strikeouts over the span of 187 and one-third innings pitched.
Graveman began his major league career in 2014 with the Toronto Blue Jays and subsequently played for several teams, including the Oakland Athletics, Chicago White Sox, Seattle Mariners, and Houston Astros.
During the 2023 season, he took the field with both the White Sox and the Astros, concluding the year with a 3.12 ERA across 68 appearances. Over his nine seasons in Major League Baseball, Graveman holds a record of 37 wins and 43 losses, alongside a 3.95 ERA and 24 saves.
