LOS ANGELES — Lauren Betts was unable to compete in the matchup between the top-ranked UCLA Bruins and No. 22 Michigan State due to an injury to her right foot.
The standout center, who stands at 6 feet 7 inches, was seen wearing a protective boot on her foot and is currently listed as day-to-day regarding her return.
Previously, Betts had missed two games in late December due to a minor leg issue.
In her last performance on Thursday against sixth-ranked Southern California, Betts achieved her 13th double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
Unfortunately for UCLA, the game resulted in a 71-60 loss, which ended their impressive run of 23 consecutive victories.
So far in the season, Betts is averaging 19.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, making her a vital component of the team’s success.
With Betts sidelined, Janiah Barker took her place and delivered an outstanding performance, contributing 18 points and 12 rebounds.
This effort helped UCLA to secure a 75-69 victory over the Spartans.
Forward Timea Gardiner praised Barker’s performance, stating, “She played phenomenal. Obviously, we’re missing a huge piece with Lauren out, but everyone stepped up in their own way and I think that makes a really great team.”
The recent developments have highlighted the resilience of the Bruins as they adapt to the situation without their key player.
Fans remain hopeful for Betts’ swift return to the court to boost UCLA’s chances in the ongoing season.
