WILMINGTON, N.C. — In an exciting clash on Saturday night, Elon University secured a victory over UNC Wilmington with a final score of 81-70, powered by a remarkable performance from TK Simpkins, who notched 32 points.
Simpkins showcased his shooting prowess by making 11 of 15 attempts from the field, impressively hitting 8 of 10 shots from three-point range. His teammate, TJ Simpkins, contributed significantly as well, scoring 13 points through 3 of 6 shooting and netting 5 of 6 free throws. Isaac Harrell also had a decent outing, finishing with 11 points on 3 of 6 shooting, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.
On the other side of the court, the Seahawks, who had maintained a strong season record of 21-6 and 11-3 in conference play, saw Sean Moore lead their effort with 28 points, adding eight rebounds and a couple of steals. Nolan Hodge supported with 18 points and six rebounds, while Khamari McGriff chipped in with seven points. This matchup marked the end of their impressive nine-game winning streak.
Elon University seized control of the game just over a minute after the opening whistle and maintained their lead throughout. By halftime, the score stood at 46-39, bolstered by 16 points from TK Simpkins. He continued his scoring surge in the second half, contributing another 16 points to ensure Elon’s 11-point victory.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to compete again on Thursday. Elon will host Towson, while UNC Wilmington will be on the road against William & Mary.
