PITTSBURGH — In an impressive turnaround, Ishmael Leggett delivered a standout performance with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Cameron Corhen added 17 points, leading Pittsburgh to a 74-65 victory over Miami on Saturday. This win enabled the Panthers to break a four-game losing streak and improve their overall record to 15-10, with a 6-8 standing in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
Zack Austin joined the double-double club, contributing 11 points and securing 10 rebounds for the Panthers. Additionally, Amsal Delalic chipped in 14 points whereas Brandin Cummings scored 11 points to aid in the team’s effort. For Miami, which now sits at 6-19 and 2-12 in the conference, Lynn Kidd was a force in the paint with 16 points and 15 rebounds. A.J. Staton-McCray and Brandon Johnson also made their mark on the scoreboard, adding 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Pittsburgh mounted a pivotal 10-2 run midway through the second half, holding Miami scoreless for five minutes, and took a commanding 53-43 lead. Corhen’s jumper extended that lead to 57-45 with just under seven minutes remaining in the game. Miami attempted to rally, as Jalil Bethea hit a crucial three-pointer, narrowing the gap to 68-61 with only a minute left. However, Pittsburgh sealed the victory by sinking all six of their free throw attempts in the closing moments.
Tensions flared near the end of the game, resulting in technical fouls for Cummings and Miami’s Divine Ugochukwu with just 24 seconds remaining.
The game began competitively, with Miami briefly leading 8-7 at the 13-minute mark of the first half. Yet, the momentum shifted significantly when Delalic drained a buzzer-beating three-pointer, granting Pittsburgh a 32-30 lead at halftime. Leggett shone throughout the first half, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and three assists.
This victory marks a request for Pittsburgh to head back on track after a rough patch, while Miami had begun to find its footing, having won two out of their last three games following an unfortunate 0-11 start in the conference season.
Looking ahead, Pittsburgh is scheduled to host Syracuse on Tuesday, while Miami will make its way to Florida State on Wednesday.
