CHICAGO — On Thursday, the Chicago White Sox announced that they have reached an agreement with two-time All-Star Joey Gallo for a minor league contract. This deal also includes an invitation for Gallo to participate in spring training despite not being on the main roster.
Gallo, a versatile player capable of playing both first base and the outfield, became a free agent after the Washington Nationals opted not to exercise his $8 million mutual option in November.
The 31-year-old had a challenging season, posting a batting average of .161 along with 10 home runs and 27 runs batted in, while striking out 102 times in 223 at-bats.
Throughout his career, Gallo has maintained a .194 batting average, belting out 208 home runs and compiling 453 RBIs, while also accumulating 1,292 strikeouts across 2,869 at-bats spread over 10 seasons in Major League Baseball. His career path has taken him through several teams, including the Texas Rangers (2015-21), the New York Yankees (2021-22), the Los Angeles Dodgers (2022), the Minnesota Twins (2023), and the Nationals.
